We are looking for a Product Marketing Manager (m/f/x), that bridges our solution offering into effective marketing deliverables, with a customer centric viewpoint. The role is destined to essentially act as a customer advocate, creating and owning the company value proposition and messaging all-up and for our target audiences being cognizant of the underlying open-source code base, and leading global solution launches for the company. Reporting to the Head of Marketing, the role will be instrumental in our effort to educate the market, delight our customers and partners, and market the best product for long-term success.


As the Crate Product Marketing Manager (m/f/x), you will be responsible for the product and technology positioning as a baseline for our outbound and content marketing activities. You will lead the development of our solution value proposition, based on thorough analysis and the development of assets that communicate the story to our audiences: developers, commercial customers, and partners.

The ability to grasp and translate technical features into business value propositions is crucial, alongside with attention to detail and quality. The role requires you to be a business savvy strategic thinker to successfully address market opportunities.

In your position as a Product Marketing Manager (m/f/x), you will be the expert on our buyer and influencer personas and translate that knowledge into compelling content and sales tools.

The Crate Product Marketing Manager (m/f/x) will act as an evangelist for CrateDB, engaging with customers, partners, users/developers, and prospects.

Close collaboration with the product management team will be key to be constantly up to date and aligned, as well as with the management team on the overarching product strategy ensuring consistent positioning and messaging.

A core responsibility of the Crate Product Marketing Manager (m/f/x) will be the plan and launch of new product releases, managing the cross-functional implementation.

  • Collaborate with product and sales teams to develop market analysis and make recommendations
  • Understand our customer’s use cases, requirements and buying process
  • Evaluate product positioning with customers and users of the community
  • Seek regular feedback from the field to identify requirements and potential to innovate
  • Understand feedback from analysts around their insights and recommendations


  • Work with product team and management to understand the product strategy all-up and by segment
  • Condense the core and unique differentiators of CrateDB
  • Establish compelling and competitive product messaging
  • Characterize the various personas and adjust the product messaging to the core personas including developers and business partners
  • Develop product messaging and assets for the key audiences
  • Define and maintain essential use case definitions
  • Contribute to the production of core assets such as white papers and case studies
  • Maintain a basic set of product and technology presentations


  • Understand product and technology roadmaps for effective launch planning
  • Responsible for the product launch process to customers, developers, partners and media
  • Equip the field and partner team with unique value proposition and differentiators
  • Develop tools & marketing material that support the selling process
  • Present our solution offering at meetups and conferences
  • Support partner and community enablement efforts
  • Author blog posts and contribute to media bylines


The ideal candidate comes with a track record of successful implementation of product marketing strategies, be experienced in managing launch processes and product positioning for an international company in a dynamic environment, preferably in the enterprise software space.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or relevant field, MBA a plus
  • Involvement in technology such as data science or data analytics is a plus


  • Min 5+ years experience as Product Marketing Manager in B2B software
  • Liaison, exposure or experience in open source a plus
  • Marketing technology products to large or mid-market
  • Proven track record of taking products to market and contributing to growth
  • Understand B2B sales cycles and methods to accelerate systematic sales


  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills [written and verbal]
  • Fluent in business English a must, further languages e.g. German a plus
  • Able to transform complex technology into comprehendible assets
  • Analytic skills, passion for learning, able to think outside the box, be innovative
  • Very good internal and external presentation skills, including public speaking
  • Results oriented project manager, managing multiple projects on schedule
  • Quality-oriented with high attention to detail
  • Ability to thrive in a high-growth matrix environment
